The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number.

Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world – more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined – deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay without a single causualty from the enemy or freindly fire.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan 's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in 250,000 hunters in West Virginia , and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. All providing their own arms and training.
 
If you tossed in a bounty for taliban/terrorists/anyone who looks like a terrorist, and paid the air fare to go to the Middle east, you could clean up most of the world's political problems in one hunting season...........
 
Good to know. It's comforting to know that the right to keep and bear arms is safe. Let's keep electing law makers who will be certain that right is maintained.

Anyone know how many members the National Rifle Association has?
 
About 4 million, and that is just the NRA members.

There are 80 million gun owners in the USA, and guys like me that have plenty.
 
Yep, you could. Advertize it as....Bring your own ammo. Free steaks and beer when you are done, free airfare. $500 for every whack job that you ice.

The nnalert terror threat would be just about over.

Oops, I forgot we arent supposed to hurt anybody over there or they wont be our friends.

I wonder how many there were here in our state. I know there were at least 3 guys hunting on the 80 north of me. I still managed to take a doe out before she had a chance to take out a car on the road!

People will often ask if I'm not afraid of getting shot when I go hunting.
I remind them that MN has an average of 600,000 deer hunters each year and generally one or two people are killed.
Then I remind them that there are at least 50 murders a year - mostly with firearms - just in Minneapolis - population 325,000.
That kind of puts things in perspective for them.
 
I forget...is the federal government still a bunch of "jack-booted thugs" when the nnalert are in power? IIRC, President George H.W. Bush [Bush41] didn't think so...and he QUIT the NRA when he got one of those mailers while he was in the White House.
 
I know it was said in jest but deer don't shoot back. BIG DIFFERENCE! Alot of "woods warriors" wouldn't cut it on a battle field.
 
In May of 1995, President George H. W. Bush quit the NRA...look it up. I'm sure you can master "google" searches. His reason? The NRA referred to federal authorities as "jack-booted thugs."

Or did someone change that part of history?
 
Hey Buzzman, That "jackbooted thug" quote came from a Democratic congressman from Michigan named Dingle. Not from a nnalert and not from the NRA. You can look that up.

I'm sure Bill Clinton (elected in 1992) will sure be surprised to learn the Herby Bush was still president and getting his mail at the White House in 1995.
 
John Dingle did make the jack booted thugs comments during a hearing about abuses by the ATF. Wayne LaPierre quoted him when making a statement about the abuses of the ATF at Wacco in 1993. It's amazing that his words transformed the space time continuum.
 
As long as the US government doesn't bypass the second amendment, we don't have to worry to much about an armed invasion, just an invasion of Illegal immigrants.

Point 1,It don't take a brave man to go hunting,deer don't shoot back.

point 2,the county with the largest army in the the world is China IMO.

point 3,domestic hunters are no match to trained terrorist.
 
How much training do you think the mujahideen in Afghanistan get?

There's a reason why the Soviets built the AK47 to operate in extreme conditions. They knew that the men handling it would "clean" it along the lines of their own personal hygiene, wipe your arse with one hand and eat with the other.
 
To be honest a lot of soldiers don't cut it on the battle field either. Back when the US relied on conscripts for WW2 only one in four or five could be counted on to be shooting during a a fire fight - the rest would be hiding out waiting for it to be over. The airforce learned the same thing with fighter pilots.
 
Won't argue with your statistics although my experience was more like 10% than 80% although I'll admit that's hard to know in a hot firefight. Been there, done that. Also, many hunters were or would have been good combat vets but there are also many who should not be issued a high powered rifle. I recently got "buzzed" by two shots while in my yard so I'm a little sensitive to the issue.
 
It doesn't take a "brainiac" to blow yourself up. I would match myself up against any rag head!

I have hunted, reloaded my own ammunition, and cast my own bullets for over 30 years.

Wait a minute, our MILITARY isn't allowed to hurt people over there... Let's just round up all our death row inmates, arm them to the hilt and turn them loose over there. Offer pardons if they whack enough to keep the defections to a minimum (of course we wouldn't actually honor the pardons, bwa ha ha ha).
 
China has over 2 million active duty personnel. Throw in reservists and paramilitary and the number is over 3 million.

The "training" your army of deer hunters is undergoing consists largely of lifting 12 ounce curls.
 
yeah,that's why they keep the UN forces at bay for the last 9 yrs,cause they don't know how to fight "right"?

Reason UN forces have been kept at bay is the same reason that Vietnam turned out like it did.....Soldiers aren't running the war, POLITICIANS are..........Give a soldier a rifle ammunition and a job and they will do it. Give them a rifle, amunition, a job, and strict orders not to shoot back and all they can do is pray they don't die.............Remember, war itself doesn't kill near as many of our guys as the politicians running them do................
 
And many of the Chinese army are simply used as a massive forced labor brigade. Huge sections of the Chinese "army" are used to help plant and harvest crops and build factories - sort of a WPA set up. They have to do something all all those young unmarried men (men outnumber women by several million).
 
Wayne, are you saying that the reason the Soviets had their butt handed to them in Afghanistan is because politicians got in the way? No, the Red Army had free rein to do whatever they wanted to whomever they wanted to do it to. And they still left with their tails between their legs.

The Afghans, like it or not, are very tough people in a very tough country with nearly impenetrable terrain. The only thing they enjoy more than fighting with each other is fighting with the various foreign armies that have invaded them over the centuries.

We kill deer for sport. The Afghans kill their fellow man for sport.
 
The army the Russians put in the field had free rein but little training and little desire to fight. A few of their special forces kick arse every where they went but most soldiers were conscripts that didn't want to fight and possibly die in a country they had never heard of. To add to the morale problem the Soviet government tried to fight the war on shoestring budget. Soldiers went for months without pay and were sent horrible food while their families sent letters begging for money because they didn't have anything either. Trucks (the ones that ran) sat for lack of fuel. Tanks became bunkers because they couldn't move. Soldiers sold weapons to the enemy to buy food from the locals.

Research it a bit and see how bad the Soviet army was in Afghanistan. To this day Russia is still dealing with all the herion addicts that came back and the organized crime that is financed from the Golden Crescent.
 
Read Dheermesc's response below. I was mainly talking about US forces but he pretty much covers the problems the Soviets had when they were there. Personally I spend the first Gulf War setting off shore on an aircraft carrier. I saw first hand the number of munitions we had onboard and were dropped toward the enemy. Problem was when a bomb was dropped they had to worry that it wasn't being dropped anywhere near any innocent civilians. Take for instance the factory that was bombed for making chemical weapons that was later claimed to be a "baby food factory" and look at the media mess and political fallout that ensued over that....That's just one incident that I can remember, and to be honest you folks back home knew more about what was going on, due to the news, than those of us that were over there did....

Look at what's happening nowdays where it's often not shoot the enemy first, it's wait until getting shot at first, still having to play by the rules where you can't do anything to put even one civilian at risk of harm (((even if said civilian is harbouring the enemy and it means taking out 500 of the enemy in doing so))). Granted I'm not there this time and I was off shore last time so I don't know ALL of the BS rules the politicins place on our guys on the ground, but I've known guys that were on the ground then and now. Funny thing is regardless of rank when not having to be PC and spewing the 'official line' they all pretty much say the same thing I said...."Let us do out job and we'll do it but give us so many 'politicaly based' restrictions and all we can do is pray not to get killed."

So, between politicians making PC decisions saying that was should be 'nice' and you shouldn't actually be a fight to win, and the media telling the enemy enough about troop movements, etc to compromise their safety how can you expect any military force to ever win a battle?????
 
Yes, Herm, that's all true. So given that the American troops are far better trained, equipped and supported than the Soviets, why is it we haven't wrapped things up in Afghanistan. Oh, right, it's the POLITICIAN'S fault. Hmm, since 2001 two different political parties have had the presidency and control of Congress. You would think somewhere along that time they would have got something right. Or is it possible that we're going to learn what every other country that's invaded Afghanistan has learned?
 
Give the opportunity I don't think there's an active, or even ex military, man or woman in existance, and who has seen the kind of firepower that can be unleashed by any branch of the US military that doesn't think he!! KNOW we can win any war if they were allowed to go in and do their job without politically motivated restrictions.

Case in point one carrier carries more explosive firepower than was unleashed by BOTH sides during the course of WW2. I've got a pic taken in the Gulf back in '90 in one of my cruise books of 4 carriers steaming within shouting distance of each other. Between them and the escort ships in the same pic we would have had no problem turing any country out there into a parking lot....Problem is we bomb a country and take even the slightest chance of killing anybody that we can't prove was a combatant without facint international sanctions as well as an uprising back here in the US from all the bleading hearts. That, my friend, is where the Afghan's, the Iraquies, the Taliban, etc all differ from us.....They will kill anyone that gets in their path be they combatants, women, children, babies, or who ever, they simply do not care. As long as our military has to walk on egg shells trying to fight an enemy force like this they will never win...........especially when they do happen to get lucky and take ove country x or y and then give it back instead of making it an American colony. I mean seriously lets waste American tax dollars to 'save' a country and when all is said and done give it away and get nothing in return but overpriced goods, oil, etc, comeing out of their country and then high tarrifs placed on our products going in by the very people our government put back in charge.... In the end no country can surviceforever and stay a super power acting like the US currently does and our current state of affairs economy wise as well as 'war' wise goes to prove it........
