Willys starter update:

Thanks to all!! My starter was a delco 10mt! Once I got that info, Twin City Electric in Biddeford Maine GAVE me 2 brush arms for FREE!!! I intalled them & my starter works perfect! Now, ponder this, I know my truck is a mix of yrs....here's is the info I have...the plate in the cab, under the driver seat reads serial # 55268 62362. My motor is a super hurricane 6 cyl....data plate reads 15305...any guesses on yrs? Prior to me, I have a bill of sale from previous owner who bought it in 1975. thanks

Welcome to the Willys truck fraternity, it's an incurable disease. I have owned a '48 for almost 20 years. Mine is far, far from origanal now, but I have owned and worked on some origanals. From the picture, your engine is an L-226, and was swapped in. The cut front crossmember says yours had the 4 cyl. origanally. If memory serves, the 226 was not installed as OEM until the '53 model. It was used from then until at least 1962. There are some web sites that might be of some help with serial numbers. One of those is "willystech.com". Good luck, Ken

Willis CJ3B with steering rack from a 1982 Toyota Tercel 4X4 (rods in front of axle. and Tyrod ends from a Taurus. Put the rack on a fabricated cross member, and hook up the little U joint to a repositioned steering column. It actually is directionally controllable. And a cab from a IHC 1950 K model truck. Jim
