2003 freightliner fl70

Just bought one with a 10 ft dump. Has a 3126 cat engine and an allison md3560 trans. Does anybody have any advice for me? the truck has 68,000 miles on it. One question I do have is what product can I use to seal/waterproof all the electrical stuff on , under, around the truck. I'm going to use it to pull my equipment around and also to plow and salt the roads for the county. Kinda wanted to protect all the connection etc. from the salt and corrosion. thanks.

I have had good luck spraying all of the plug connections with "Fluid Film" I just put on the straw nozzle and fill the pins from the back and front. It really seems to help. I even use it on my battery cables and it seems to work well.
As for your truck. You should get a lot of good use out of a full size truck with that low of miles. I have been looking for one like that to put a flat bed on to pull my goose neck trailers with. The DOT is cracking down on pickups anyway and I already have my CDL. A full size truck will handle the heavy loads better any way.

I dont know were your from, but why is DOT cracking down on pick ups? You mean people overloading them?, or pulling trailers?

I just got rid of a FL80 3126 2002. Other than a cracked block at 200,000 it was a good truck till 300,000 then the Cat shop could never figure out why it would loose power and then take off and run like a bandit. There really isn t any connectors that have not been water and salt proofed, I really wanted to buy mine from the leasing company but the last 60 days it got so bad about dieing going down the road I made the boss give me a city truck to drive(the city guys are not 125 miles from home when they need a wrecker)

I don"t know if the FL70"s had this same problem, but the exterior door handles on our fire department"s FL80"s would work loose over time and eventually the door latch fell apart internally and the door couldn"t be opened from outside.

They are checking manufacture Gross Vehicle rating and if you are over they will ticket you. Example: 3/4 ton pickup at GVW 8500 and a trailer with a GVW of 8500 for a total combined GVW of 17000. So if you have a tractor that weights 9000 and your empty weight on the truck/trailer is 8000 lbs you are legal if you have a nine ton license on your truck. Most don"t have that heavy of license and many haul heavier than that.
Most around here just have a goose neck stock trailer and a goose neck flat bed. They then run base #10000 farm tags and where fine. Now they are writing tickets everyday for GVW violations. My pickup and trailer weight #14500. So I can only haul seven ton legal: #8500 pickup and #20000 trailer GVW rating. I then have to have a fourteen ton license and CDL because it is over #26000.
