Crazy Horse Memorial, Black Hill's, South Dakota.

First Pic, the memorial, started back in the 1950's, expected completion around 2020 I believe. It is fun to visit this site, been there twice, 2003 and 2008,,, could see the progress.

Second picture, the future finnished look.

Note: Mt Rushmore, will fit in Crazy Horses arm pit! Pic taken from 1 mile away.

Naw,

That old woman doesn't wanna finish that thing.

She's makin' too darned much money on the "help us donations". :>)

It is an awesome thing to see. Both side done, so it will look as if coming out the mountain. The foundation doesn't take 1 cent of government money. She doesn't want the government to have any say in the thing. All private donations. I heard mount rushmore would fit on the forehead of the crazy horse monument.

First saw Crazy Horse in 1973. The flat part was the only work done.
Was back in 1983. The hole for his armpit had just been made.
Nearly 30 years and the have his face done.
Completed by 2020? Yeah right!

Progress has been slow for sure. What are they carving with a hammer and chisel?

Looks the same as it did when I was there in 2000.They give you a sob story of how they rely on donations to make progress. What a load of $#!*&.I think I was charged around $10.00 to park.Multiply that by 200,000 visitors per year.If they get money from the government they have to so progress. All the local businesses don't have a lot of good to say about it.

well,, I think that they can't go any farther, I think that if they try to make the big opening between the spear and the horse, that it will fall apart there. Most likely some cracks that make it unstable

Nothing but a tourist trap. I've been there many times as I know a couple of the boys. That rock was owned by my Uncle, Joe Neff from Custer,SD
My mother and all her brothers and sisters have been on top of that rock, they called it "Big Rock".

My Uncle Merle Spencer wrote an article on the rock which was published in the Dakoda Outdoors, in July 2000 issue. Interesting reading.
