SEDIMENT BOWL QUESTION

Ok, this question may be "stupid", but I don't know the answer, so here it goes:

Does sediment bowls have to be vertically straight, or can it be mounted on an angle?? ...Really,..I want to know! :?:

It has to be straight down or nearly because the dirt and rust has to
go to the bottom away from the inlet and outlet lines.

sediment will aso collect at a angle ,,if for whatver modification reason the machine will not allow installation at the tank , simply instal right before carburator or someplace else in line at a level location ,, i recall (perhaps JD3010) had the sedimentbulb right off the lift pump upside dn ,served little purpose except to see that you had flow ,. worked ok because the tank had a water trap drain ,, JD IDEA is something other rainbow of color makes could had embraced to make life easier .. ..

I'm gonna say it depends on the angle..

I'd say they'd nearly work horizontal, but they'd plug the screen faster, as the sediment settles to the bottom, which laying horizontal, the sediment would just move about and likely drift right toward the screen, whereas vertical it'd settle to the bottom and take more to get it up to the screen.

I'm sure in a minute someone will argue this

They will work at an angle. However, I run e10 in all my stuff and if it sits a while with a loose gas cap, it'll collect water. The more angle, the sooner the water would get into the outlet. You can use a street 45 or something to keep it close to vetical if needed or as others have said, remote mount it where it can be vertical.

theyre designed to work with bowl down or as close to down as you can get...i've seen them on slight angles and still working.
if your tank is squeaky clean and you filter your fuel then it wont matter what angle the bowl is.

What Brad said. I think you will have flow issues with your screen being partially covered by rust and crud. May never get that part of the screen very clean either.

I tee off the tank with a water/rust trap and radiator valve on the end so I can drain off any water, rust, or just drain the tank with a hose into a can. Cheaper than one of those airplane tank valves and tester.

Off the middle of the tee I have a regular 3/8" ball valve and then elbow down to the sediment bowl. My new $50 sediment bowl from caseih never did shut off completely. All fittings are brass.

Depends on how much angle you mean turning over as long as the outlet is on the bottom for gravity flow sure it would work but the screen would not do its job the best.
