Cummins Commbustion Knock

A friends N-14 Cummins has a metalic knock in one cylinder at an idle, moreso than the other cylinders.Ran the rack, all ok.Rev it up,no knock.Truck runs fine, good oil pressure no other issues.Sounds like a diesel combustion knock,is this an injector getting ready to go south?

Better get it to a truck mechanic who's experienced in Cummins. Sounds like it could be an injector but at $1000 apiece experimenting can rack up the dollars fast. Jim

Hello DJJR,
Sounds like you are confortable going into the engine. A quick check of the exhaust manifold temp will tell you which cylinder is the coldest,
Swap that injector with another cylinder, and rechek the exhaust temperature.
Engine brake out of adjustment on that cylinder?
If so it will only act up at idle.
Guido.

Jake adjustment checked out ok along with valves and inj. adjustment.I have a rebuilt spare inj, with same cpl(1844)I told him he could put it in and try it.I fit works just get me another. Thanks Guido.
