Just thought Id ask before I take my truck to my mechanic friend, does anybody know how to stop the truck from that annoying beeping when you leave you key in the ignition, and door is open? Its a 2000 f250. My Dakota, I can pull the key out some and it stops beeping, but in the Ford the key will fall out as it has to come out so far to stop the stupid chime. I wanna cut the wire to it, as I dont think a fuse runs just the chime. Im also gonna look in my manuals and see what that says, maybe I can find the wire for the chime in there. Prolly just a nightmare.?? Has anybody done this before. Thanks JayinNY.

i donr it to an 84 mercury had the plastic off the steering columne there was a plug in with a single wire unplugged it ans wala i know its a bit older than your truck but i assume they are basicly the same

Directions in the owners manual. Plug in and disconnect the seat belts and other odd things.

I hope someone gives you an answer. I've got a '99 F250 and that is one really irritating noise. I delivered a load of hay today and when I got there about 75' away the door of a Ford truck opened and that wonderful BEEPING came out. I had to ask the guy if he'd ever thought about disconnecting it----he just laughed. I've only had the truck about 1 yr and don't use it a lot but I can see a disconnected beeper in my future.

On a 94 Ford I found the noise maker and it look like a speacker and I took a jack knife and made a x in the center and no more noise. Bob

i feel your pain...my '06 Tacoma has one too and so far i havent been able to locate it and stick a phillips screwdriver thru its lil bleating heart...keys hit the floor before i open door.

Used to be there was also a warning device when seat belts weren"t fastened in addition to the key and door ajar buzzers.

One guy I knew set a weight in the seats, left keys in the ignition, and left the door open all night long and he reported that the next morning all was quiet--and the battery wasn"t dead.

There is a wire with a little tab that goes on the steering column where the ignition tumbler slides in when the wire is grounded it makes that noise. Remove the column shroud pull out the tumbler and remove that wire. That will fix it just make sure you don"t let that wire touch ground to any thing or you will get that noise all the time.

Do not disable this system! It is there for a purpose so that if you leave the keys in while parked a young hoodlum wandering around on the lot can hear that there is an unlocked truck free for the taking. Some people make life hard for a criminal
