remote.start

If you live anywhere near any size city, there will be several places that can install a remote starter for you. Just look in the yellow pages.

It's not something you want to do yourself. There is a lot of cutting and splicing of wires, and if you cut the wrong wire, it won't start at all.

Let the experts handle it. They will sell you the correct system for your truck, which will handle the glow plug delay and everything.

I would think seriously before intalling it. I work at a GM dealer and we remove a lot of them. With all of the electronics and security stuff it really messes them up. For a few years it seemed like a lot of people thought they were great Christmas gifts. Starting mid January we would get the calls "my car won't start". Most cases the ignition switch and security components where so butchered it was a few hundred dollars and no more remote start. Just my .02

(quoted from post at 06:27:57 12/07/10) ot-3500 chevy 6.0 D. is their a remote start system and how does it work - effect glow plugs

Wife has a pretty hitek one on her Kia Sorento. Takes care of the glowplugs, cleans windows, turns on seat heater, and cleans a path from the housedoor to the car....... Works on good food and beer.

One of the heaters like JDemaris was talking about would be the way to go. Doesn't start the vehicle but is a small burner that heats the cooling system to warm the engine and defrost/heat as necessary. Unit for the wife's car is about 1k bucks installed. she figures the dave2 system is cheaper
