Here's the new Kenmore water heater installed. Hal

Had a company come out and install one for me. They plumbed the cold inlet to the hot water out piping and the hot outlet to the cold water source. Couldn't figure out why the amount of hot water was limited to a short shower. After that I've done my own installs.

Looks like yours has a double bonnet for some reason. Put some foam pipe insulation on the hot water outlet piping.

Did ya solder the female coupling on the cold pipe, BEFORE you screwed it on the inlet nipple?
It has a plastic "dip tube" in it, that could melt and drop to the bottom.
Unions (pipe couplings) and valves woulda been nice.

They were both soldered before installing them on the water heater. There's a shutoff valve on the cold water pipe. Its higher up and isn't shown in the picture. The old Kenmore water heater lasted almost 19 years and Sears' furnished this new water heater free of charge. Since the Survivor water heater had a lifetime warranty they told me if this water heater fails it will be replaced free. That's hard to beat. Hal

You will be in trouble in a few years or sooner without dieelectric separation between the metal tank fittings and the copper pipe.Plus those flex connections you did not use take the strain off your plumbing from thermal expansion. Also shut off valves right at the tank make stopping a leak way faster!

If his old water heater lasted from 92 to 2010 than I don't think flex connectors or dielectric unions would have made much differance. Just add more places for it to leak. What differance does it make if you have a cutoff at the water heater or a main cold water cutoff at the line coming into the house. Both cut the water off.

Couldn't help laughing when reading all that stuff below- everybody's a critic! That'll teach you to ever post any pictures. . .

BTW, where's your earthquake strap? LOL

It gives them something to rant about. I think this was about the fourth water heater we've had in the last 43 years. The first 2 were only guaranteed for 5 years and that's about how long they lasted. I installed the last three. Hal
