Odd Tractor prices

Went to a farm auction in Beattie, ks today, a 54 Super H brought $2200, a IH 756 Diesel in decent shape brought $3000.00, a decent JD 4020 brought $5500.00 and an even better 4020 brought $7100.00, the auctioneer couldn't believe the 4020's and 756 were that low. I was there to buy a hopper trailer that sold after the tractors, so I had to save my money for that, well I didn't get it, only had $20000 to spend and it brought $25500.00, wish I had bought the tractors.

Have you ever seen a farm auctioneer that didn't say the item was worth more and you the buyer got a great deal when he struck the item off?

I have been to enough auctions to know that, what I was saying was that the prices were real low for this area. I go to several auctions and have never seen these quality of tractors go for those prices.

Maybe buyers were saving their money for Christmas and/or winter heating bills. Just a thought.

Yeah... and I always think.. if it's such a great deal you (the auctioneer) can bid on it... I've seen it done.

Ya, just like Jim Macfadden says, you just got a great buy on this tractor, you made out good today, Im loosing money on this one but Im gonna sell it. You going to Macfaddens auction on Dec 11..? j

One time I went to a big consignment sale and bid up about half a dozen feed mills. All the mills were going so darn high, I was kind of relieved I didn't get one with some of my bids, but my mill at home was on its last leg so I kept at it. The sale was winding down and there was one late arrival feed mill in the line. It was the same model that I had just bid up to over $1200 earlier. Started the bidding at $1000, no takers, $750, no takers, $500 so I start the bidding and NOBODY BID AGAINST ME! Maybe I should have held out longer :) Sales can be strange sometimes.

I know that Jim makes out OK, but a friend that I usually go with had been at an auction in PA a few weeks earlier where Jim had bought a tractor and paid considerably more than he got for it at his auction. And like he always says he did sell it that day.

Are you going to the Dec 11th auction? And maybe stop off at the Duanesburg Diner.... UMMMM,, I had the bacon cheesburger deluxe there today, wife had the grilled chicken sandwhich, ohhh french fries. j

Just this past month the auctioneer said after the sale he was supprised at how high the tractors went, way more than he expected.

Went to an auciton today and a massey 1805 brought only $2000! Thats a 160 hp 4 wheel drive articulated tractor. had a cat diesed motor and ran well and had always been stored inside! All i could say was that im kicking myself for not grabbing it

I was on an auction several months ago where they had a couple dozen tractors. When they started selling the tractors, all of them were going for twice what I thought they should, so I wandered off somewhere else. I heard later a real straight MM G1000 went for $600. I'd have given that without batting an eye. But, when that happens, you always wonder if everyone else saw something you didn't.

Then, of course, you never know how high the other guy would have gone.

About the best buy I ever made on an auction was once when I was farming there was a cultivator I was interested in on a consignment auction. Six row, 30", 3 pt. I figured it would go for around $400 or a little better. It was a lousy day, pouring down rain, the auctioneers messed around on small stuff too long and lost the crowd, etc. When they came to the cultivator, the auctioneer couldn't get a bid. I finally bid $20, the auctioneer said "Sold", and I was standing there with my mouth hanging open.

It doesn't look like I'm going to make it. I don't see anything appealing on the list and my company has an Xmas party the night before in the opposite direction. Make sure you go and that nobody buys anything too cheap!!

Lots of middle size farmers getting out or have too much equipment now.The big farmers aren't going to use those tractros and they are to big for the weekenders.

Many times the actioneer will have spotters working for them and no one is really bidding on the tractor, but they run prices up, and you get stuck.

Granted I am a long ways from Kansas but those prices look right to me. It cost a lot more to put rubber on now versus five years ago so that is definitely a factor in bidding now. 4020 side consoles that are less than perfect can be bought for under 10K and ones a little on the rough side but run and are usable are starting to show up at the 8000 dollar mark give or take a few hundred.
