OT Halloween Pumpkin Question

Aloha,
My wife bought a Halloween pumpkin in October to make some pumpkin soup. The pumpkin color was mostly orange with some small green spots. Now (12-01-10) the pumpkin is almost green and was wondering if this is normal. TIA

doogdoog, I used to operate a pumpkin farm, planted 2-3 acres every year from 1984 to 1999. I have harvested many partialy green pumpkins but they would always ripen and turn completely orange. I have never seen one turn from orange to green!? I don"t think I would eat it as the ripening (turning orange) is how you want it for consumption.....Ed

Most pumpkin pies are made out of squash, anyhow- get a good winter squash, and it'll probably turn out better.

Most "Holloween" pumkins are bred to be big with not much taste. You'd want a pumkin that's made for cooking like a sugar pumkin.

Aloha,
Thanks for all the replies and good suggestions. The outside of the pumpkin is hard and there are no fuzzy stuff growing on it. LOL. I will try to post some pictures. Sorry about the size of the picture, I tried to make it smaller but it still comes out large.
