O/T Christmas Trees

I put up our plastic made in china Christmas Tree today.Big pain in the you know where, but it's up. When the kids were home we did the live tree thing by going to a tree farm and cutting the best tree on the lot, then when we got it home it didn't look as good. Just the wife, and the cats, and dog now. With the price of trees here where I live, around 50.00, seams like a waste of money. Stan

Thats funny Stan, my parents just told me they found a place in NY that makes fake trees. Its by Orange County I guess, were they film the chopper show OCC. Yep 50.00 is a waste for a cut tree. You can get a balled and burlaped live one for that much, than plant it, instead of throwing it away after christmas.

Another important consideration is they don't take any water, so there is no water to slop out of the base and damage a hardwood floor.

Picked up an artificial tree in January from the PX anout 15 years ago for 10 bucks. Stores in a big rubbermaid tub and takes about 30 minutes to get a nice looking 6ft tree including decorating. I pick up the real trees folks throw away and give them to the horses to chew on.

We have not had a real tree in twenty years or more. We have had several artificial ones. The one we have now is a seven foot two piece tree. The limbs are hinged. So you stand the bottom up and then fold down the limbs. Then put the top half on and do the same thing. It looks very good when it is up. PLUS the wife"s cats don"t tear it up like they used to our real ones. They still climb this one but it seems to hold up better.

Stan , there is a way to save even more time and effort when it comes to a Christmas Tree.. An elderly lady schoolteacher in our neighborbood had a beautiful artificial Christmas Tree. After the Christmas Season, she would cover the decorated tree with a bed sheet and slide the whole works into a spare room..

Ours is near the same,3 piece and prewired. Spread the base, insert bottom section, find cord end and locate it towards wall outlet, insert middle section into bottom section ,plug lights into lower section lights ,insert top section into middle section and connect lights ,Check all light wireing connections .fluff up limbs and needles and plug into wall, voila, ready to go. A great invention.Still have memories of going to the tree farm with the kids and dog and bringing home the perfect tree tho.Memories brings tears some times.

I always said I'd never have a plastic one in the house, but a few years ago we had an experience with a real one that scared the living bat crap out of me. Whenever I took one out to burn it before, all I could do is burn the needles off one side and it would take til spring to get the whole thing burned up. Til that last one! That sucker went up like a Roman candle. I'd never seen anything burn so fast. Thick black smoke and that thing was GONE in about 20 seconds, all but the trunk. Even the branches were nothing but ashes just that quick. Never again.

I find it incredibly interesting that with as much as most of you bemoan purchasing foreign products be it tools, clothes whatever instead of paying more for American quality as well as venting frustration that no one any longer supports the American agricultural industry that you would choose a foreign made plastic tree over an American grown live tree from a usually local small agricultural entity like a tree farm.
