Any of the name brands will probably be all right; e-bay often has 'last generation' cameras for about 10% of what they cost when new. I've had great results with Fuji and personally would buy something that used generic (AA) batteries.

When you get a new camera buy a memory card and download your pics from the memory card. It's a good place to store your pics too. We have a Z710 Kodak that I like and it also has video recording. It takes nice sharp pictures too. Hal

I'd recomend the sonny powershot. Thepic's i take here are taken on one, small, fits in a pocket, stainless case pretty tough little camera. Mine is 8 years old, replaced the rechargable battery once..... stilll going strong. Takes great pics.

I kinda go with thurlow on using aaa batteries. Pretty hard to recharge others when you run out away from home. Maybe one with the same type memory as the wife's. No matter what, get a memory chip adapter to USB to download the pics. You don't need all those "megapixles" four or 5 is enough, but a lot of telephoto zoom is great out in the country.

The 150$ market is just fine. Only consider an optical zoom, digital zoom is not zoom it is just cropping the image, and reducing resolution. The lense should move in and out with zoom. Fuji, canon, Sony, nikon, olympus are all great. 6 mega pixels is reasonable for making photos that you want to print for home use. less is OK for internet display. My wifes Fuji is 8mp and was less than 95. Battery life today is dramatically better than in the past.
Changable Lithium Metal Hydride batteries are great even if of special shape. Purchase a spare and take it with. AA and AAA batteries do last a long time now, but are handy in the fact that they can be found most places. Jim

Much depends on what you want to do. For me, a good optical (true) zoom lense is a must. Kodak is one of the few with a 10X long lense and reasonble price.

My wife and I have been using Z710s that both have 10 power optical lenses and they've been great cameras. Gotten some amazing wildlife photos with the lenses.

Now, Kodak has one with a 26X lense and I just ordered it. Z981. Having a built-in 26 power optical lense, and a macro function for close-ups at 1/2" is pretty amazing. Also takes moving video with sound if wanter. $189 shipped to my door with no sales tax.

They all use standard AA batteries and also standard SD storage cards.

I have a Kodak Z1012, well worth the money. Get the zoom and get the extra pixels. You're already spending x dollars for a good camera, why not spend a little more and get an excellent/great camera. It isn't as if it will go bad and you never know, you might regret not having the zoom and pixels down the road.

Kodak Easyshare C633 satisfys me,memory card, video, audio, small enough will fit in your shirt pocket, zoom and centering capable. Down side is in certain sun situations screen is hard for me to see the image I wish to photograph. Two common AA batterys.

Spend just enough to get what you want and no more so that when you drop it the loss won't hurt quite as bad. I personally like the Canon products but there are many fine cameras out there.

Look at the Panasonic Lumix FH20
Ranked 1st of 48 in Point and Shoot. It has 14.1 megapixels; 8x optical zoom; 28mm wide-angle lens; 2.7-inch LCD display; 720p HD video; Venus Engine IV image processor; Captures to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards; Lithium ion battery. It is Priced at about $135 but with a sale you may get it even cheaper.

I bought a Canon PowerShot A40 18 months ago for $30 on Amazon and used it till now, just got an A520 for $31 and it came in the mail today. Old cheap ones work great for me.

I have a FujiFilm finepix A920 camera. Bought off television (QVC). About the size of a deck of cards. Very Handy! Nice little camera
