john deere A grill screens

I'm working on restoring the grill on my john deere A. I need to take the screens off so i can pound out some dents in the grill. how do i go about doing that? how do I put the screen back on after I'm done? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Some grilles are spot welded, soldered, or brazed together. Might be better to form a tool that can be pressed into the grooves rather than pounding on it. Even a chunk of pipe or shaft, if the right size, may work.

I use a sharp drill bit and remove the spot welds that way. Be careful not to drill all the way through. After I straighten the Grille bars, I use my wire welder to tack the screens back in place.

Check on Ebay, search under John Deere A. There is usually a listing for a special tool to straighten John Deere Grill Bars which someone has designed. Price looked reasonable if I remember correctly.

thanks everybody I'll try your ideas. its good to know that people are willing to share their experience to help starters like me.
