will it work or is it going to get to hot? I didn't get my underground water line in to the shed, dont want to drain hose every time I have to water the animals.

Have done it by wrapping hose in foil then apply the heat tape. covering that with the foam pipe wrap works good too. without the foil you don"t get a good heat transfer to the hose. that said i recently purchased one of the hoses with the heat tape built in. 50 foot hose was about $130. haven"t tried it yet.

If you go to e how.com and type in how to wrap a garden hose with heat tape, it will tell you how and that it works. Hope this helps Mike

I have done what firelane did no problems tape did not have thermostat and it did not hurt the hose. I had a water pipe freeze two years ago. I hooked the hose to the well house and other end to a hydrant that I also wrapped in heat tape. It worked for a few weeks till the ground thawed to dig up and replace pipe.

"Get one that has a high/ low thermostat built in."

Even better, get some heat tape that is self-regulating, preventing localized hot spots and keeping energy use at a minimum!

Below is a link to info on such a product, you can buy the exact length you need. It's even wrapped in a metal braid for protection.

Around here, some hardware sores sell it.

Yep, we use it on the supply lines to cattle water fountains here on the tundra.
