Have been looking at a lot of stude's latly. Any pictures also would be nice ? Some us older members surely remember them along with Reo etc!!!

A farmer friend had a large flatbed grain truck
with 6V53 GM Diesel, and 5 speed transmission.
It came from the factory that way.I"d love to have one of those.
I do have a 53 Willys Overland, (not a Jeep, but
people call it a Jeep)1 ton pickup. It has 12 leaves in the rear springs, 5.16/1 axle ratios,
and a 1957 226 cubic inch super Hurricane 6 cyl.,
built for Willys by Continental.(so i"ve been
told)

Didn't have a Studebaker truck, but did have a 1957 Studebaker Hawk! A neat car--twin exhaust, V-8 engine, 4 speed tranny, would dust off any Mustang from a standing start! And never spin a wheel--you just had to know how to shift the automatic transmission, with its "hidden" second gear!

I sure missed the boat in the 1970s when I attended an auction and DIDN'T buy a Studebaker farm truck.

A friends dad came over and urged me to buy it. My response was I don't even know if you can get parts for them. He then pointed out to me that the entire truck was selling for less than the value of tires on it. I still didn't bid but after the fact I've always wished I would have

My Father bought a new 51 Stude P/U and a new E 4 COOP. I was 10 at the time,I drove them both from when they were new. He put a gravity bin on the truck and he combined and I would drive the truck and put the wheat in the grainry . Happy memorys of both of them

Yep,,,Shure do,,,48 3/4 ton
48 1ton for parts if i need them....
Need to get that thing running again to some day............Shes a double clutching beast..............still like my 78 ford the best tho.

I worked for Stde. dealer in 1957. Have owned
many over the years. Favorite was 1960 Champ 1/2 ton with 259 ci. V8. Sold the last Silver Hawk
in 1986. Was privileged to drive a new Hawk on the
test track in South Bend one time. Most Studebaker designs were far ahead of their time in my opinion. The hill holder in the 1940's,
the Lowery design of the cars in the early 50's
are good examples of that.

i would if i could get one, i know of 6 in the local area, 4 run, all need tlc, owners will not sell, dont blame them, they were one of the best trucks in the day, still are as far as im concerned

I had a 1960 Champ with the 259 in it. Only bad part about it was the gas guage. When it hit empty,it ment empty. No go look for a gas station.

Also had a 64 Hawk. Finally sold it. Got tired of getting pulled over by cops that wanted to look at it. Also by people always asking questions about it.

Wish I still had both of them now. Best car and truck I have ever owned.

Here is mine. I picked it up cheap at a farm sale near here. I wanted one for a long time, since our old welder trailer was made out of the bed from Dad's old Stude.

He used it as his only pickup/grain truck for about 10-12 years. It was just like this one.

Took my drivers test in a Studebaker stock truck loaded with sheep. The owner got drunk & I had to drive him home. He told me to stop and take my test, lied about my age and signed as my parrent. Dad sure wasn't happy when I got home & told him. He eventually got over it & realized we'd have probably been killed if Bob had driven home.

There was bbc model and e40 e45 with various detroit diesels. The e was basically a transtar cab. They are rare.

If I have any regrets in life it's getting rid of my my Commander and '51( if I remember correctly) pickup. I will definately buy a Stude if I ever find one for sale

I didn't have a stude truck, but a car. I remembr it had a hill holder. Just stop going up a hill and it didn't roll back. I should have kept it like a lot of other cars I owned. Back then they were just another old worn out car. Stan

I had my grandpa's 49 Studebaker pickup for years. Both front fenders rusted through from top to bottom by the doors. Driving down the road the fenders would flap up and down in the breeze. Now that was flying.
