Is there any way to make a c-9 cat have more horsepower? Its in a 02 sterling fuel truck, the truck is 60,000lbs when loaded full, and it has no power in hilly area's, the 10-speed roadrangers does not help, a 13-18 speed would probably help, or a bigger engine. any idea's? do they make any kind of "performance chip" or program for larger trucks?

I work for a state roads dept and have the same problems with our trucks. We had some training on the Cat engines and asked the instructor about changing the horsepower, he said sure, just bring your checkbook. Not saying your truck is already at its peak hp a Cat dealer can hook it up to the computer and tell you if any is available. He made a funny remark, the truck dealer sells you the truck, we "Cat" sell horsepower. We never turned any up. chris

You are at the heavy side of what that engine was made for. It was made for delivery trucks not that heavy of use. You can have it checked out to see if there is a higher horsepower seting. There is not any after market "chip" like with the pickups.

Im afraid i spotted blowbye tonight while i was putting some fuel in a farm tank, so not only is this truck under-powered but also is worn out
