JD 60 Power Steering

I'm interested in adding power steering to my dad's 60. It's a wide front with a loader and a bear to steer, especially when plowing snow. I've seen a few tractors with what looked to be an aftermarket set-up and thought this may be the way to go. I need help - Is this a good solution? Who builds it? Where can I find one? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have a Behlen power steering unit on mine. It has a pump that runs off the distibuter. It works great but looks kind of clumsy.

There was an aftermarket kit from Char-lynn that was popular back in the day. You spliced a torque generator into the long steering shaft, so it was pretty universal. Generally used a small automotive power steering pump. I had one on a 60, actually, and it worked great. I parted out the tractor, and still have the power steering set up. No, its not for sale- its destined for a Cockshutt 35.

You can still get Char-lynn torque generators through Eaton, among others (eaton dot com).

I understand they quit making the kits because guys were putting them on cars. Too much liability, because if the torque generator fails, you have no steering control at all. Not a big problem on a tractor, but catastrophic on a car going around a turn at 70 MPH.
