Trade Opinions Needed

I posted this on the Lesser Classics but thought I would throw it out here.
I have a Yanmar 2500 in good condition and everything works. I have the opportunity to trade for a Belarus 250AS. I bush hogged with the Belarus today and like the tractor better than the Yanmar.
I need opinions about working ability and such.
I see that locally the Yanmar's sell for a bit more than the Belarus' but that could be local likes.

I've never heard anyone say anything good about a Belarus, but I don't get around that much. I have heard good things about Yanmar, but I don't know many Yanmar owners.

I live close to the old East German Border and see quite a few Belarus, Zetor, and a couple other communist brands. Tuff enough but parts availability even here isn't that great. In your place, I'd stick with what you have.

Unless you know the yanmar is going to require MAJOR dollars soon, stay with what you got. The Yanmar must be bad if the red pig is more functional...
They're not noted for being the most user friendly things and certainly not all that reliable. Also known leakers... and if it isn't leaking something it's probably been run dry.

"The devil you know is better than the devil you don't."

Never heard much good said about Belarus, but Yanmar is good enough to be the John Deere "tractor of choice" for the last 30 years or so.

You have gotten good replies about sticking with what you have. I will back up everything everyone else has said. Don't do it!!!!

I second the motion to stay with the Yanmar, in high school I swathed hay for a neighbor who had a Belarus, it was not a user friendly machine. As that has been years ago I don't recall the list of repairs, but do remember that it required costly repairs to the FWA and rear end.

I've seen some Belarus sitting in shops for over 6 months waiting for parts. Used to used a little 240 yanmar and never had any problems getting parts and were in the trans/diff. even and received parts in a few days. The trans/diff problems were from operator abuse/inexperienced help.

That's what I wanted to know. My Yanmar is nice, I guess it was just the fun of running a different machine that was giving me the fuzzys.

My uncle next door has a Belarus. Hes had it I think about 18 or 19 years, maybe longer. He was bushhogging last week and I stopped to talk to him. He told me hes never had any trouble out of it, but he only uses it maybe 20 hours a year........

I see Belarus tractors parked in the weeds everywhere I go, some of them look like they have not had much use at all, I'd keep the Yanmar for sure.

Heres what a farmer I worked for said when I bought my own place. Buy equipment from a dealer close to you, when you need parts you need them now.Use fast hitch tools. He was right.
