Twin Cities/MN Snow

You guys without electric up there? Hope your tractors started so you can get some seat time if you can't watch football...

Was with out power a few days ago, Lots of snow on trees,so it wont be long will we have a repeat performance of NO POWER. Will fire up the generator and wait for restore.

We are located right in the middle of the heavy band on this storm. We got 11 or 12 inches of really heavy wet nasty stuff. My son and I have a snow plow route of almost 30 accounts, and worked our butts off. Even though we have HD pickups with 8 ft blades, after trying a couple of jobs we decided that it was too risky to make the trucks do the work on this one. We were sliding around too much and with a truck you can not see exacrly what the blade is doing until you look at the spoils pile. As no ground or gravel was frozen yet, our chance of doing serious damage to gravel drives and sod along the side of the drives was too high. So we used our best plowing rig....a home made front blade system (9'6" wide) and a 9' rear HD 3 pt blade on a Ford TW10 tractor. Both blades have hydraulic lift and turn. We did about 9 hours of operating time, ending about midnight Saturday.
With the tractor, we can instantly see if we are pulling gravel or sod. We did see some down power lines at 3 of our customers. The TV said there were about 45,000 homes without power by Sat night, and as of this morning there were still 1000 homes without power. As you all know, a city person without electricity can not operate their gas fired furnace. Both my son and I heat with wood, and we both have generators if needed. My indoor boiler will keep the house warm even without electricity (by thermosiphon, if I manually set the 5 zone valves open).

I still have some fall chores to do, so I do not want to see any more snow for a few weeks.

Other than what I read on the net, there was nobody talking much about your snow, which really is significant for this time of year...

My neighbor to the South in the LaCrosse area still has over 200 Acres of corn to get out....he is probably hoping for no snow, too.
