Copper sheeting

We have just moved our premises at work and some small cuttings of copper sheeting are about to be thrown out. Can I use these to make cylinder head gaskets tractor engines (diesel). I thought if ever I had an old gasket that was difficult to get I could use the old one as a template, cut the copper to shape and put it into place with some silicon sealent. I know it might raise the compression ration a little as the thickness is only around 1mm. Any thoughts or should I just let it go to the rubbish skip.
Thanks
Bill

copper is going for over $2.50/lb scrap and you want to do what with it? Throw it out?

if you make gaskets out of it use a product called Kopper Kote to seal it...you could do multiple thicknesses to build proper height as long as you seal each piece.

friend of mine did that with an old Walkashaw engine he used for a power unit. Takes patience but better than throwing a good engine away

In late forties we had a neighbor boy with a flat head ford. He did not have enough money to have heads shaved for better top performnce. It was claimed that he made a set of head gaskets from screen wire and red Perma-tex.

Copper is far too valuable to be thrown out.Collect every bit you can it has gone from 60 cents to $2.60.Friends and I collected copper scrap when we were teenagers.Still cant beleive what you posted.I picked up a bit of copper flashing in a dump that sold for a days pay in US money.

That post is driving me nuts.Friends and I made good money scrapping copper and brass during the 50s.We sold many 650 16 tire casings to a recap shop for 2.50 each when that was 2 hours wages. We sold bean poles out of my 48 ford.Put the top down and filled the back seat with poles.
