John Deere 8770

I am considering purchasing a JD 8770 4WD with the 12 speed powershift trans and was wondering if there is anyone who has owned this tractor that has had problems with it, thanks.

Neighbor has had one for quite a while, pretty trouble free.

This past spring, it blew a head gasket 'cause of a couple of stretched/broken headbolts.

The owner is a hyper nutcase thinking he needed the tractor back right away and, much to my surprise, talked the dealership into putting it back together without having the head checked/ surfaced. It's been holding up so far.

Those four wheel drive tractors are some of the best ones Deere ever built. They where simple but very durable. I have had more dealing with the twenty-four speed but I have not heard of any problems with the power shifts. I also like the Cummins motor much better than the earlier JD engines. The engines in the 9000 series are fine but the 40 and 50 series had problems.

JD seller, if you think the 8760/8770's have Cummins engines you are ONE confused hombre!

I'd not be speaking so hot of the 9000 series engines.

We have 6 at work, and of them:

The oldest has just shy of 3000 hours.. (or 2007 models) and to the best of my knowledge all of them have had the variable speed fan assemblies worked on or replaced.. except for the one I run every day, and it is making a lot of noise, so it's due to be worked on.

3 of the 6 have been in the shop now due to a problem of making oil (diesel is getting into the pan) My boss was told it's a normal thing for it to happen between 2 and 3k hours. Have had one quit, seems like the fuel pump went out around 750 hours.

We've also had different problems with the tractor itself.. All I can say is if it was my money that bought them, I'd be looking into a color change.. but then again, I don't know that the other colors are really any better.
