IH 656 hydro air

has anybody ever heard of the main pickup line in the rear of an IH 656 hydro, leaking and letting air into the transmission? Only cause the of the 2 lines that go to the "oil radiator" the one coming out of the transmission has a decent amount of air in it.

Is it actually white and "milky" or just full of tiny bubbles?

There's a heck of a lot of "churning" going on down in the belly of that tractor when it's running and the oil "looks as tho" it is full of bubbles.

Here's a picture on my tractor's rear end oil when she was sucking air. Definitely air in the oil.

It could also be caused by oil that will not let go of air. Some oils that are speced the same as HY Tran ultra are not equal to it in that regard. Something to consider, a leak in a suction line will cause that also but I believe that all is internal on that tractor. mEl

The oil going to the oil cooler comes directly from the charge pump. The only two places for the charge pump to suck air is from the filter cover on the right hand side of the transmission (replace o-ring and use some petroleum jelly on the new one). Make sure the cover isn't warped. And the second spot is the recirculation tube which goes from the multi-valve (valve block on top of tranny where the oil cooler lines come from)to the left hand side of the trans (approx 5/8 inch steel tube. Look for cracks looseness etc...

Water will collect in the oil over time effecting colour>> most hydro's don't have the oil changed often enough. And remember if it does need a fluid change it must be a TDH fluid which meets IH B6 not standard hydraulic fluid(most labels still have the old IH spec). listed).

(quoted from post at 16:29:31 11/13/10) Also, do you remember where the tractor was sucking air in?

Small hole in the spin on filter by the starter. Jumper cables touched the filter and burned a hole in it.
