JD, or is it John? I remember last year you said something about adding 2 cycle oil to on road diesel fuel in your truck, for lube reasons. How much 2cycle oil should I add to my 40 gallon tank of on road diesel fuel for my truck? Also is it ok to add the oil now with it being so cold? And is ok over winter if its in the fuel tank until next April? I dont really run this truck in the salt and snow. I do use power service conditioner also. Thanks for the info, sorry for a repeat question. JayinNY

I was adding 1 cup to 80 liters (so a pint for your 40 gal?) in my wife's Kia Sorento. stopped for some reason and she told me today that it sounds different. gonna start again and see if it goes back to the way it was.

I dump a quart of 3 stroke in my Isuzu NPR, every other tankful. Mostly, from what I have heard, the old rotary style pumps need the lube, that the 2 stroke provides, more than the newer in line pumps.

Using two-stroke-cycle-oil at 1 to 200 ratio puts lube above needed specs, even for the older rotary pumps. Other additives also work fine, but the oil is by far the cheapest if you buy it in gallon jugs at Walmart.

I've heard of people running straight ATF in Detroits. This would be used oil.

I picked up five hundred gallons of used refrigeration oil a few years ago. I mix it in at 25% in my bulk tank. I run it year-round in all my diesels. I siphon it out of the 5 gallon buckets it comes in. I set the hose about an inch from the bottom.

JD, mine is a 2000 7.3 Ford so Im not sure what pump it has. I have Shell Natulis 2CYCLE oil. Just thought I should put some in, will that work? I was getting b20 biodiesel at a station called Pit Stop in Schoarie on RT30 but I think they stoped carrying it. Thanks J

I use stanadyne performance formula. I've also used power services. I think any additive will work, I've even heard two stroke oil and automatic transmission fluid. Last, I used Howse Lubricater. I got it from TSC and it was priced real reasonable. It smokes more now and has a little different smell. They say 1 quart of ATF to a tank of fuel.

You might not want to add anything that gives a red tint to on-road fuel. Might have to do some explaining if you are checked. My son and I were just talking about this subject. His N14 Cummins has an injector that sometimes gets a burr under it's saddle for a day or so. The IH truck mechanic told him he has to use additive to today's fuel to keep it running on all six. No rotary pumps on Ford/IH 7.3s after the middle of model year 1994. Rotary pumps are the parts thats suffer from low-lube fuel.

I use 30W non detergent oil, 1 qt per tank full.

I stay away from ATF because I am not sure the additives are compatable with o rings and seals.

I use Walmart 2-cycle oil about a quart for 25 gallons and Power Service in my 2006 Dodge Diesel. Truck likes the extra lube, I likes the extra power and smoke: "If they ain't chokin, you ain't smokin" (from somewhere on the net, can't remember where)
