Hi all

I think this is a magneto, but would like confirmation. Also can anyone recommend a wiring harness kit to convert to 12 volt alternator with magneto ignition? I have a 48 farmall M with the 4 pos. switch

If you don't have an auto type ignition coil you probably have a mag. You don't need any wiring off an alternator if you have a mag as they don't require any battery voltage as the alternator just keeps the battery charged. You should place this request over on the Farmall forum since someone will give you the web site for wiring your alternator. Hal

If he can't tell if he has a magneto or battery ignition, how's he gonna tell if he has an ignition coil?

A magneto looks EXACTLY like this:

A distributor looks EXACTLY like this:

If you can't tell the difference in these two pictures, then I don't know what to tell you.

get your self a good 6 volt batt and if its charging you will have no problems. why must you have 12 volts anyway?these 6 volts with mags st art so easy.

If you spin the mag to fast with 12 volt it can by-pass the mag impluse making the tractor harder to start
