O/T When the latest to plant Winter Wheat in Michigan

Some say it's already to late to plant winter wheat here in southern lower Michigan near Ohio/MI line.
I can remember my dad planting wheat in late November and then it snowed on top of it.
It grew a couple inches under the snow cover we got.

It's been very very dry here Southeastern lower MI.
I see some wheat in our area still not sprouted due to it's been so dry.
Thanks. Mike

Here in Ohio a hundred mile south of the Oh-Mi line it has been said as long as you could get it in before it froze to much for the drill to work it would make.

Should be OK. According to an article in the Farmers Advance several years ago, you would be OK into the second week of November in Southern Michigan. I have planted in the first week of November and it turned out OK.

Depends on where in Michigan you're asking about. In Sault Ste. Marie we try for between Aug. 20 and Sept. 1. We have planted later but it's unreliable.

The latest to plant winter wheat is before the Vernal Equinox, which is at March 20, 2010, at precisely 1:32 P.M. EDT

If you plant later, it is Spring wheat as Spring starts at 1:32:01 on that date.

Hope this is helpful.....LOL
