Speaking of PHD's

Don't want to hijack the post below.

I bent the output shaft on my Post Hole Digger. It worked for years with a nine inch auger, but I changed to a twelve a couple years ago. The ground was hard and dry last summer, and as usual, I got in too big of a hurry. It still works, but has one foot in the grave. No name to be found on it, and I think it's too light duty to spend much money on. What's a real good brand of digger?

must be PHD season, i borrowed one from dad, it's older than him i think, the main beam is a "I" beam, i caught a big rock and twisted the snot out of it,
 
If you're in the 'serious' hole-digging business, get a hydraulic one; they cost about 3 times as much, but they're just like a divorce...........they're worth it.
 
Danhauser made 'boiler plate' units. We still used the one I'm trying to send to a new home up until this past year. I like positive down pressure so I got a Lowe that mounts on the front of a skid loader. Got two Lowe augers with it but I also needed a rock drill so I got one from Caterpiller. Light years ahead in quality.
 
I wish I could find the 3 point apparatus for a Danuser F8. I have an old Dearborn Danuser that is such a bear to put on with all the doohicky pipes, under axle brackets, etc.
I talked to Danuser Corp a couple of years ago and they sell an upgrade kit to convert my Dearborn to an F8 but it was like $1600 or so.
The heads are interchangeable. But the F8 is a true 3 point and have a lot more safety stuff on them.

If you're near MD, I'll sell you some pre-drilled holes, They're a booger to ship, they keep fallin off of the trucks, then they become pot holes! Seriously, I use a hydraulic unit, on my ASV RC30, it reverses if you hit something, at the touch of my thumb. Beats the heck out of the ole pipe wrench!
