Rode that train as a kid, went to a restaurant in Silverton that had the best steak ever!!! That was nearly 40 years ago, wonder if it's still there?:>)

AWESOME!! I rode a lot as part of the volunteer crew on the Norfolk Southern steam excursions in Ohio, and on the Ohio Central, but we don't have that kind of scenery here. Definitely on my Bucket List.

Hi Lloyd: I rode that train about 15 years ago. It was late June ,if I remember right. I chose the last car as it was an open car(no top)and it was great to take pictures in any direction quickly. I also got some pictures of the steam engine smoking a lot pulling us up hill and some of the very narrow ledges the tracks were layed on. Super ride on a nice Sunny day but a bit cool at higher elevations as there was still traces of snow on the peaks. Thanks for posting your pictures. My pictures were just before digital became popular.. ag..

Wonderful pictures! I rode that train several times as a kid in the 60's. Don't have any pictures, but I do still have the railroad hat my grandad bought me to wear on the ride, and yes it has several burn holes in it from the sparks as I had my head hanging out the window. Great memories.
I copied your first picture as it made me really want to go fishing. See the red circle behind the big rock? I guarantee you there is a big trout right there. Just drop a salmon egg above the rock and let the water carry it around and drop down behind the rock in the deep water, BOOM comes the strike. Ahhhhhhhhh, the good old days.......
