Do any of you know what a Harley Davidson mechanic makes or can expect to make per hour working for a dealership?? Thanks!

11.78-17.76 not what you wanted is it . I looked it up on line. yea, seems to me it would be worth more.

If one wants to get paid well for fixing things; it seems to me the best place to do fixing is where the breakdown is costing money because of down time. Production plant, utilities, commercial transportation are some that come to mind but there are a lot more. The Harley person will take care of the easy stuff herself and not be inclined pay a premium to get back on the road.

Try to work a deal to go in on commission. Head for at least 45% if you are furnishing your own tools (other than big stuff the company requires). Check some of the independent shops too. Some of them are owned by Harley Certified (or accepted) mechanics, and qualify to do factory approved repairs and warranty, and pay a little better. I do custom work, so it is not comparable. My shop is a small family owned and operated business, with my sons and daughter helping out. In the Central area of Texas, the HD dealerships are in the $70.00 per hour labor rate. My rate is less, and get a lot of business, but I've been working on them for a while, and have a good rep. I have also worked in the auto body repair business at dealerships, and made good money there. It's a lot different than a bike shop though. I always furnished my own tools, and varied from 45% to 60% of the hourly rate. Even at 60, I can hold my own with the younger folks, but I learned some 45 years ago from good men who taught me right in both fields.

And usually less at an independent shop.
Its a job you have to love to put up with the pay.
And that only goes so far.
The money's in bein' a shop owner, they keep the cash...
You can find a lot easier work for more pay.
Again, if its in your blood and what you want to do,
you have to pay the price in low pay.
Also, benefits (retirement, sick days, etc.) usually not that great,
especially at an independent shop.
