Ive got a 36 JD A,one cylinder is low on compression and from looking into the sparkplug hole,I can see the cylinder is oily....My question is, Do you think the condition can be from not working the tractor or more likely a seal or ring problem?
The motor was overhauled at least 15yrs ago,but it doesnt have alot of hours on it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The easiest way to find out is to put a load on it and let it slog away for a couple of days. It either picks up or it doesn't. Most of this old stuff seems to suffer if it's just putzing around. Sam

May be the rings are stuck (or broken)..
May want to fill the cylinders with a mix of ATF and solvent and let stand for a couple days, before you take it out and work it..
