This is for a 1971 MF165 Ser #9A127903. I'm doing a total rewire after an electrical fire and I can't figure out what this little gizmo does. Any help or thought would be greatly appreciated. MF Poor, if you read this, I'd like to take you up the offer for the wiring schematic if you can find it. Thanks in advance.

Can't see the pictures. But with my limited MF experience that might not matter.
I can't imagine wiring without a diagram!
I'm writing here because I helped a neighbor friend repair/wire his 65 after a fire. As on many older tractors there was no fused protection where the power comes off the solenoid on the original nor the new harness. If your wiring doesn't have that provision- do yourself a favor and fix it.

The older Masseys of the 100 series had a transformer that ran flourescent dash lights. They were cool looking, but as far as I know, there is no chance of replacing them. I've switched mine over to normal bulbs. I had a wiring diagram somewhere, but cant find it. It came from Big Dean . I havent heard from him in a while, but if can get his CD's they are excellent a troubleshooting and repairing a 100 series tractor.

The manual calls it a power supply for instrument lighting. Does it have two leads? Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like one lead comes from the light switch and then another wire daisy chains out to each gauge for the lighting.
Is this a gas or diesel? There are five different wiring diagrams for the MF165 in my manual. Your serial number does help. Man I would hate to be a parts man.
I can look at mine tomorrow if it isn't too much of a pain to get to.)

When I rewire my tractor next year, I am going to use GM fusible links or get a roll of it and make my own.

Usually found on old wiring harnesses near the starter or battery - if the harness shorts out the wiring melts like a fuse with a large puff of gray smoke.

sure beats having the whole thing catch on fire

(quoted from post at 16:21:40 10/25/10) In order to view a MUCH larger version of the pics, you must use the 'modern view' on this site. :D
Or, very carefully, using both hands to keep things steady, use the mouse to put the little arrow over the picture, and left click on it.

Maybe a little googling to find a wiring diagram and see if you can find a name?

Good Luck,

Dave
