Just thought Id share a pic of my 23hp Kawai that blew this summer on a Exmark lawnmower. The valve head broke, and pounded a hole threw the piston by the time my brother shut it down. I cant complain it had 2760 hours on it. J

so it dropped the exhaust valve and munched it. I have and older kaw and it is one good motor.

Well the stem is still in the head, along with the valve spring on top. I guess the valve stem broke and the valve head fell into the cylinder, thats the little piece in the pic.

yep, listening to the Iphone music and daydreaming, a little slow on the turn off. Plus I started it up again to drive it back onto the trailer. I wasent pushing it up the ramp. Ran fine on one cylinder.

Jay, I have a Ferris with that motor with 1100 hours on it. What's the deal on that Donaldson air cleaner?

Its took 8 years for me to put 280 hr. on mine,,, so I take it I got 80 years of life left... the stock air filter is a P.O.S. but I keep a good eye on it and clean it every 8 to10 hr... broke down and brought a new'n this year,,, would luv to convert it to a better air filter system...

Its a 2 stage HD air filter like you find on a tractor or industrial peice of equipment. I will try to take a picture of it tomarrow for you. My old filter was a cartirage with a foam pre filter. If that makes any sense. J

My IH 5900 had a regular truck type. Is this one that is made specifically to mount on the Kawasaki?

I haven't had any problems with any of our Kaw's on Toro's yet. We don't have any with that many hours though. I do have problems with some newer Kohler's though. I still love my 12.5 single Kaw's, over 10,000 hours and never been apart. Have 4 my Dad bought in the 80's!!!

Bought a used Toro 72" Diesel this year. Doesn't use much fuel, just wonder if the engine is a good one or what.

Had the same thing happen to me years ago with an air cooled VW. Just had new valves installed and one exhaust valve broke. Lost the engine at 2 AM on I65 in KY.

It is not, it"s a Briggs/Daihtsu deal. I think they may have used to been Kubotas or Exmark uses Kubota, can"t remember. I love my Kubota equipment, so I wish it was. We"ll see how long it holds together. I have one 72" with FI Kohler thats been good to me, but needed one more after picking up several 5-10 acre flat mowing stops this year. We"ve always been toro and I can"t really complain for how much they"ve been through. I just have had a few complaints mostly over engine problems over the years. Most recently, problems with Kohler cam gears splitting on engines with 700-800 hours on them (two) and then I have other engines with 2000-2500 hours on them that have never been apart.
