OT - Metal porch railing? sources????

Back in the 60's my dad built our house. Used metal porch railing for back and front porches. These use a 1" square tubing post, and base pieces fastened to bolts cast in the concrete porch. Between the posts are a grid consisting of twisted vertical pieces welded to a top and bottom railing. Time and weather have taken their toll, and I need to make some repairs.

Sent wife to big box home improvement stores. Both of them have what I need, only it is based on 1 1/4 inch tubing. Both said they don't have, or can't get 1" stuff.....

Where?

I used to "custom" build them. I got the 1" tubing from the local steel supply store. The twisted pieces are made by putting the 1/8" flat iron in a length of 1" or 1 1/4" pipe just a little shorter than the "flat". Hold one protruding end static with a wrench and twist the opposite end also with a wrench the number of twists that you want. It comes out nice and straight. Try to get both ends pointed the same way for welding to the top and bottom rail. I also have a set of tools that I made the scrolls with. Used to be a lot of fun!

I work in Iron shop we build all kind of railings and fences.. yes we build things with one inch like what you saying.. find a iron shop near or if you in Omaha.. let me know.

where are you located in michigan? You can get the 1 in sq tubing at any custom welding shop, or through Jaclyn Steel in Traverse City. Are the twisted pickets 1/8 x 1 or are they square? Let me know as I have access to a picket twister and may be able to help you out with the pickets

Thanks guys, What I really need is a couple bases that sit on the porch surface, and have a 1 inch square socket to hold posts. That and a new post. All other hardware I can fabricate. Bases they have now are 1 1/4 inch square, and bolt holes in base won"t fit existing holes. Those are bolts cast into the concerte, and I"m trying to not have to drill new holes and anchor new bolts. They never do stay in well.
