OK....
I was talking about the Allis Chalmer earlier this month and all its electric BS. The Allis spread the plague to the Ford 600...My cous and I worked on it and got he electrical system working on the Ford yesterday. It was doing fine. last night I tried to crank it and the starter was just a spinning and would not stop..I had to run to the other side of the tractor and pull off the ground wire and now the ground wire melts the post on the battery when I try to hook it back up. Not every time but most the time. tapping on the solonoid seems to help keep it from Arcing So!....There is a gas sediment bulb on that side of the tractor that leaks. I do not want to kill myself while working on this Damn old machine. What is the deal here and what do I do.

Cursing every day,
Darrell

2 things can cause that. One is a weak battery and that in turn causes the points in the soliniod to weld together. #2 a bad soliniod will also cause that or a combo of the 2. Either way it sounds like you need a new soliniod and also probably need to charge the battery. Oh and if you say the battery if full charged guess what it isn't now because of that problem

you cant see the points in the solenoid...if theyre sticking you need to replace the solenoid...sometimes a weak battery will cause it to stick and burn...good luck finding a good solenoid these days.

I meant to say i checked the points in the distributor and it looked messey in there...I also would like to know what type solonoid you would put on there? The one I have was the one a mechanic put on it when I first picked up the tractor. Its Black with a silver top with three prongs on it.
