adding lights to tractor

dumb question,I want to add a couple lights to my tractor, can I run a wire straight from the battery with a switch so its separate from the original lights? any problems with that? thanks

You could, but they should be fused, and you'll need to not to forget to shut them off or else. Out of curiosity though, why not run them off after the factory switch and have them all the same?

Some original switches have dimmer resistors in them that cannot stand the power flow of added lights. A relay would work to ad switched lights from the original switch. Jim

What tractor? Some tractors back into the 60's already have some extra wiring on them. I have added an extra rear work light to both my 1965 4020 and 1969 2520 and the wire was already there.
I can see running from scratch on some of the older simpler ones, but often taking power from the solenoid or an existing switch is better than going to the battery. As mentioned, best to make sure it's fused.

I agree... you cuuld use a fog lamp relay and the wiring diagram for it, just make sure it is fused with an inline fuse or the smallest size fusible link in case of problems later

Use a test light to find a "hot when key is on" terminal on the backside of of the ignition switch. Less apt to leave the lights on that way. I mounted lights high on a pole(pipe). Can see everything as good as daylight.
