way ot,but need ideas

We have a 99 2554 ih truck, with the 466e.thru out the summer its been lacking power, takes a couple miles to get up to 45mph.computor shows no problems changed injectors, after 3 hours of dia, they said try that.no difference, changed map senser, cleaned fuel tank, lines screen and filter, changed air filter ,looked at turbo, removed exhaust .I can not get any boost out of this truck, only goes up to 10.88,should be around 22.no codes, even reset the trans computor and no change.I know it has nothing to do with tractors but its farm related.I know iam missing something.maybe one of you guys know what i'am missing.or where i can ask. thank you. steve in wi.

Check and see if the truck has a air to air [ radiator looking thing in front of the rad] . Look for cracks or have checked for leaks by making plugs for the tubes. one plug solid the other with a valve stem. Pressureize to about 30psi , if it dosen't build pressure you found your problem. Also check the clamps on the tubes for looseness. If now leaks then a fuel problem, no boost means no fuel. Did they put the injector codes. In the computer? On my cat it will run but like s#$t with out the injectors being programed. Hope this helps.

Does this engine have a waste gate turbo if so is it working, can you move the gate by hand. Also if it has an air to air aftercooler that could be plugged or have an hole in it. You said that they did the computer diagnostic did they check that the reading from the accelerator pedal was at 100% when fully pressed. Also did they check the ambient air sensor and boost sensor. The computor can say they are good but they can be sending a wrong reading.

They didn,t say anything about injector codes, but i,ll have to check that air cooler out.retightened all the clamps and looked at it.but will have to air test it. thanks

Yes the waste gates moves, and checked it with a vaccum gauge. The map senser went up to 10.88 and the other air senser he checked. but now you said acc pedal,i remember something different at 100%,but i did check with engine running and off followed the foot pedal on the computor from 1 % up to 100%,at 100% the line on the laptop did something, but it did go too 100%.i have to check this stuff on monday again. Is their something on the acc pedal ,it should stay at 100 i'am guessing.thanks

I am going to look into your setup and see if this applies.

If it is anything like a powerstroke, it will not fuel without boost. Ensure that the map sensor line is not plugged. If it is set up similar (HUEI)check the screened return on the fuel pressure regulator. Little bits of the injector seals end up here and create a low fuel problem.

The guys over at the schoolbusfleet.com forum know EVERYTHING there is to know about 466's. Try them (in the mechanics section) if you are still struggling...

Gotta agree with SUPERTRUCKER. It is more than likely your charge air cooler. If it"s leaking, you will loose most of your boost. Had that happen one time, put on a new one and it acted like a new truck. First place I"d look.

Just throwing something out here but we had a Powerstroke at work that had repeated problems with the egr valve staying open due to wire harness chaffing. It was however VERY smoky and you don't mention smoke.

I just got my 1996 power stroke back. Lost power did everthing you are doing finally got so bad it wouldn't start at all. My machanic checked fuel pressure first then he checked volts to the injectors. On my truck there is a module that takes 12 volt and puts 110 volts to the injectors. Module was bad. Runs good now.
