Has This Happened to You?

You go to get a tractor part, in my case it was a 12x38 double bevel rim for the 70, and you end up buying something else.

Only needed one rim, but ended up bringing home five rims.

Four of the rims are on "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndRp3MsyE5s">Mack</a>" our 51MT and latest addition to the fleet.

"Mack" was parked in a fence row with a lot of dead JD B's.

</a>

Now parked in the shop waiting for the radiator and generator to be repaired.

Bought some new parts; gauges, radiator mounts, gas tank grommets, muffler, battery, battery cables, and ignition switch.

Also bought a used hub for the left wheel.

This should keep my busy for a while now that hay season is over.

Yes, I was there and agreed that buying that very nice tractor was a good idea.

Even though the tractor runs great, as usual when James starts cleaning one up, we find things that need to be fixed.

Looks good! That's how I got the No.5 mower with my MT. It wasn't originally part of the deal but I saw it sitting next to the shed and it took about 5 minutes for it to be included in the price. That's how you find some good deals though!

Nancy,

Do you offer lessons on "tolerance of husband's hobby" to other wives? I'll bet you could make a fair living in that occupation. Or maybe you could make a fabulose(sp?) living with a new Opra type show dealing with such an important topic. Or maybe better yet to get a gig like Dr Phil has where you could show up for guest appearances like on Opra's show, and not have to be tied to some everyday schedule, but still collect the bucks and be recognized as "The Expert".

Even though my wife of 40+ years has had to learn a lot of tolerance, she has not yet come to appreciate the finer points of tractor collecting. Our (wife and I) relationship is a bit more like Roger Welch described in one of his books. "Don't ever line them up in a straight row, it makes it too easy for her to count them" and "need" new carpet or drapes or 2 sofas or some other worthless expensive stuff like we got for wedding presents 40 years ago.

Oh I think I am going to be in a mess of difficulty now, probably 2 weeks in the dog house with only dry food out of the cheap bag once a day. And the short leash!

Cheers for you!!

You said - probably 2 weeks in the dog house with only dry food out of the cheap bag once a day. And the short leash!

Some guys never get out of that situation.

I can only dream that I might have your problem someday.
I have a "68"ford 3400 TL and a "61" Fordson Power Major TLB. that need work. But,
I"m so broke I can"t pay attention.
Anyone want a Fordson TLB in Ma.? Runs.

Saw the photo of your MT a while back on the JD forum.

You've got a nice looking little tractor; you did good on your tractor.

Just a reminder that refurbishing a #5 mower is a lot of work.

However you will learn a lot about it and end up with a nice mower.

They are handy mowers and work pretty good.

As discussed in another thread, you need to find something that your wife is interested in and help her out with it. In my case it's horses. I very seldom ride them but I sure do put in my time with them and for them. When it comes to my tractor or one of my other million or so hobbies my wife doesn't say too much.
So there you have it, its' simple! :lol:

By the way, nice new found tractor James! Someday that will happen to me.........someday :roll:

Nice find there James !
Mack sounds happy and quite ready to mingle with the rest of the clan <}:>)}

We started the fleet in 1994 with "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEnS0gkp7Mc">Old John</a>" Nancy's 48A.

Tractor belonged to her late father and was located in Gosport, Indiana.

We drove up there on a July 4th weekend in my 65 Chevy truck with a 16ft flatbed trailer to get it.

"<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l_OmdZ8KUs">Old John</a>" is our spraying tractor.

Just been bringing home JD tractors over the years as we need them and can afford them.

James,
Yes it has and more than once.Nice to see you have a Tractor Mack.My son Oliver just has the books so far.

Vito

Most important is that you spend time together regardless of the "hobby".

Usually goes something like this:
James = "I saw a tractor . . ."
Nancy = "Do we need to go look at it?"
James = "I don't know; maybe . . ."
Nancy = "Where would we put it?"
James = "I don't know; maybe in the . . ."

Like you said "[b:654c4848f0]So there you have it, its' simple![/b:654c4848f0]"

"Mack" will probably share duties with "Sam".

Probably will pull the hay rake, water buggy, and the JD No. 16 delivery trailer.

She also enjoys driving the old JD tractors.

There's only two others she hasn't driven besides "Mack"; "1011" our 53 70 and "John B" our 43B.

Hmmm. That"s an idea. If I made mega bucks, then someone else could build the equipment shed!

Unfortunately, a lot of the reason James and I get along so well is due to our unpleasant first marriages.

It all works out. James does a lot of work on the hayfield which produces the hay for my horses and I would much rather be doing anything outside at the farm than sweeping the floor!!!!!

Glad to hear that I'm not alone and in good company.

Oliver's got the right idea; learn by reading the books and tractor manuals first.

When he gets his first tractor, he'll be ready to go.

Since he's about 10-11, he should be ready to drive one by now.

HMMMMMMMMMMM,
Maybe ought to get an Oliver (tractor) before one of the Red glennster things!

James,
My oldest,Sander, is 8.Oliver is 5 .Time is going way to fast as it is don't want to add any years before their time.They get to drive when they can reach the foot pedals properly.For know they just get to steer, at a slow speed,with me on the tractor.

Have a good weekend.

Vito

Have had a couple of both.Oliver will be going for the meadow green/clover white wheels not that other green with yellow wheels if I have anything to say about it.No offense to James and Nancy.
