hp vs implement size

is there a chart or guide somewhere to find out what is the recommend size of implement for a certain hp of tractor?

what i have is a 584 ih diesel, 50hp, how big of brush hog, ? we have a 5 footer which is kinda small for it, i think a 6 footer would be nice for the size still small enough to shove around in some tight places, but a 7 would be quicker, but less "handy" to mow 10 or less, we also have a 20acre place we keep up for my grandmother.

i want to put in a 3 acre food plot, the disks i have available to borrow are from 6 up to feet, even have one of those folding ones a guy said i could borrow, obviously it would be too big

I've always been able to find that out via Google. Otherwise depending upon how old the impliment is you can sometimes find the manufacturers recommendations on the implement via their website or dealership locations.

I have a Ford 3930 which is just a touch smaller, 45hp PTO, it is also 4wd, which does make a difference.

I have a 6ft brush hog, could use a 7ft on normal weeds. In heavy brush, it'll work the tractor. Guess it depends on what you are mowning.

Heres what else I use that is sized perfect.
7 foot flail mower
12 foot batwing finish mower
9 foot C-tine cultivator
8 foot danish tine with 4inch shovels (works the tractor depending on soil)
6 foot tiller
1 leg ripper 20-24inch (subsoiler)
6 foot box blade (plenty if you are ripping into sod)
2-14 plow, could use a 3 bottom, but it was free.
6 foot tandem disc (too small)
13 foot tandem disc (too big, sold it)

Hopefully this will get you in the ball park a little on sizes.

I know of no "charts" but a 6 cutter would be about right. Seven foot cutters are akward, carry lots of weight far from the lift pins and pull hard. You will be power limited in many conditions.

You should be able to handke a 10' pull disc in most conditions.

I run a 6 foot cutter with my 684 IH. I can cut through the tallest grass you can find without a problem.

I would think that your 584 should have no problem handling a 6 foot cutter.

Interesting info on that site. I mainly picked my equipment based on what others told me. Except for the auction deals I couldn"t turn down.

Weight the front end and use a 7ft. Your limiting factor is not PTO power but front end weight. In my opinion a WOODS requires less power as the deck is farther above the blades. A WOODS cost more but is worth it. My opinion but will not debate

I have a 585 with an 8-ft rotary. I've been cutting some
rather heavy stuff (first time cut this year) Third gear,
walks right along-govenor opens a bit.

What is more important than horsepower is how you want to do the job , speed is a big factor then weight of implement and weight of tractor. A lot of implements in a pull type you can use and the tractor handle them OK, then there are other implements that you can use as a mounted implement and not a pull type. Now for a rotary mower of 7' you may or may not have enough power depending on what you are mowing, mowers take a lot more power than people say. But the 7' in a pull type you would not have so much weight hanging on back of tractor that front end would be light and steering hard because of sliding and that is if you have enough power in the lift to even get the mower up to a transport position and if it steers OK with the mower down with it raised the front end might be in the air all the time so weight is a big factor. I used to have 2 different pull type models and the smallest I would ever put it behind was a 28 HP John Deere, would not even think of putting behind the 23 HP Ford and that mower in halfway heavy stuff would bog down a 52 rated HP Ford that actually was putting out 60 on dyno, killed that large ford many a time on that 5' mower. Now you go with a finnishing type mower a 7' will be easier on the hitch than a 5' bush hog type do to the way they are made close to tractor but you cannot mow the heavy stuff.
