changing diesel fuel injector question

I finally got around to pulling the injectors out of my Ford 3000 last night. It's been blowing blue clouds for a while now, I just haven't made the time to get to it. The tips of all the injectors were covered in carbon flakes, I'm taking them to be rebuilt today.

I can also see some flakes left in the bottom of the mounting hole. What should I do about them? Should I just knock them off when I reinstall the injectors or leave them alone? I realize pulling the head is probably the best choice, but I don't have the time for that much of a project right now.

Thank for the advice.

There should be copper sealing rings down there that seals compression on the injector shoulder..They have to come out..New seals should come with the rebuilt injectors.. I'd just scrape the step off then blow out the carbon with an air hose and nozzle..I also use never seize on the injector body..There is a cork or composite sealing ring at the top under the large shoulder of the injector to keep dirt/ water out..

I taped a little vinyl tubing onto my shop vac and vacuumed everything I could get out of the bores in order to keep the stuff out of the cylinders. Then I coated with never seize.
