Nice harvest!

We've already had a frost here in Southern Illinois - wiped out my south garden, but the north one (near the house) survived. Still have some living tomatoes, cukes, peppers, and of course some turnips. Won't be long and they'll bite the dust too (all but the turnips).

Wrap those green tomatoes in newspaper, and put them in a cardboard box. In a few weeks, you'll have red tomatoes to eat.

My tomatoes were kind of gettin' ahead of me, and I usually cook up all the ripe ones (we only have 2 plants) and make a good chili, just before the first frost.

Wife's friend gave her a bunch of chili- good enough flavor, but not nearly enough liquid- kind of like a brick of beans and meat. So I boiled up the tomatoes, added onions and peppers, then threw in the chili brick and some more spices, and it ended up "just right".

I usually have a lot of green ones left on the plant, and so bring the plants into the garage and hang them upside down, and get more ripening through the fall. But this year was so cold and wet they didn't keep setting, so there aren't many left. I got a fried green tomato recipe off the internet and will give that a try.
