Trouble with sleeves

hello
I recently tore down my stuck super wd9 and have been working on trying to break it loose. I finally did break it loose but the #1 piston is still very tight in the sleeve. So my plan of attack was to pull the sleeve completely out, press the piston out, take the ridge off, hone the sleeve out, make sure the rings werent stuck, and put it all back together. Since #2 was stuck as well, i pulled it out to do the same without a problem. I was hoping #1 would come out easily as well, but it did not. I got the sleeve about 4 inches out of the block and that is were it sits now. I can not get it to move eather way now. I have tried everything I know of to get this stubbern sleeve out, but yet it still will not move. Does anybody have any ideas for me to try? any help is appreitatied. thanks

I assume you are using a sleeve puller with a puck and draw bar. If not that will make things happen.
If you have done that, try it again with dry ice in the sleeve.

If not using a puller, make a plug to fit the bottom of the sleeve (not casting) then fill the block with warm water. to the top of the block. Next put dry ice into the sleeve to shrink it. It will come out.

Use a piece of 2 X 2 oak and a big hammer and try to drive out the connecting rod and piston. The sleeve may come with it. I doubt if you will be able to use the old sleeves and pistons.

PS: I would use a ridge reamer to cut that ridge if the piston isn't too high in the sleeve.

I have no idea why you are wasting your time with the old sleeves, pistons, pins and rings. They are old, worn and stuck.
For the cost of a set of rings vs, the sleeve/piston/pin/ring kit. Just install a full kit and be done with it instead spending days on junk.

You should get the piston out of the sleeve first before pulling the sleeve, then use a sleeve puller. How are you trying to get the sleeve out with the piston in? If you are trying to pound it out from the connecting rod side, you're probably going to mess up the piston, and will be difficult to apply force on center. Hitting it off center is probably what is making the sleeve stick, but it's surprising you've gotten it out as far as you did. Is the crankshaft still in the block? If you get the sleeve out of the block with the piston still stuck in it, how are you going to press out the piston without crushing/distorting the sleeve?

I would suggest buying some Iron Etch from NAPA (made by Martin Seynour Paint,) it's an acid that is used for cleaning sheet metal prior to priming. Pour about 1/2" in the cylinder and let it sit overnight, then drive out the piston with a chuck of oak and a big hammer the next day. I unstuck two W9 pistons and several other motors that way. Then you can get a sleeve puller to pull it out.

Be carefull what you do, since new sleeves and pistons for the 9 series are very expensive. You may be best off to leave the sleeves in the block and take it to a machine shop to have liners installed, depending on how the sleeves look.

Have you priced a set of sleeve & pistons for a Super WD9? If you can even find them, there probably pushing $1500.

I thought JD's were green because that is the colour of money?
Dude is going to spend a good portion of the $1500 and a lot of extra time to have a freshly assembled worn out engine.

Is this a wet sleeve that could be corroded on
the water side..rust keeping the sleeve from
pulling out ?
