Our season has been open since August 15, but it has been to hot for me. Went yesterday killed a nice cow horn for the freezer.Have you been yet? Anyone else? And when does your season run?

Not to interrupt, but wow that is early, you guys stay hot that time of year and to now for the most part right ? Well sure would be nice not to freeze like we do in our stands, more so later season which is early-mid December. You guys must either get em cut up immediately after the kill or skinned and hung in a freezer or something, don't take long to spoil in that weather. Sometimes I'll hang mine after gutting and skinning over night if it's cold, say low 30's or better, more energy the next morning to get it done.

Next week archery starts, runs til mid november, say around 19th-22nd, (have to look at the calendar to be precise) then rifle or shotgun season,(depends on whats legal in your county) till mid December, followed by 1 week of muzzle loading season/late archery.

I sat in my stand last night, had some respectable doe within my archery kill radius, 3 small bucks, and over 20 various size doe in our field that oats were harvested from, I re-plant oats for em, they really go after the fresh green oat grass this time of year, everything that the combine leaves germinates in the field. I took some photos, and a short video, great place to sit, even the birds, some of which I have never seen before, will land on you or close branches, the stand etc. great time to sit, not too cold etc.

Not been out yet way to hot for me. I do not go out till after the first hard freeze or gun season opens which ever one comes first. Here in Missouri bow season opens Sept. 15th and goes till some time in Jan. with 2 or 3 gun season in there like normal gun season this year is Nov. 13 to the 24th and then atlerless season goes for another 10 days after that.

Warm weather presents it own problems when it comes to meat condition. When it hits 70 to 80 degrees during the day, I see no other option but to quarter the deer up immediately and cool it in the refrigerator. ( I've got a dedicated beer 'fridge in the garage I use for this). I don't like doing it that way because the meat quality suffers, as does the texture and taste. But, it's better than having it spoil. And I'm talking about temperatures in November in NW Missouri, let alone Sept/Oct.

This weekend was the fourth weekend of bow season already....my oldest son took an exceptional 8 point first weekend....

I have seen only small bucks within bow range so far, but like Old said, it has been way to hot..today was 83 out....

Last week of Oct and first 2 of Novemember is my "favorite" time to hunt them with the bow..

Way to hot and to many mosquitoes. But down here if you wait till it gets cold the season will be over. Most people take their deer to venison processors as quickly as possible. Unfortunately I spend way more time planting and preparing than hunting or so it seems. Usually take 4 or 5 but we eat it quite often. Any body got a favorite recipe.
