Mineapolis moline Za leaks gas from cap on new paint help

My MM Za that I restored several years back has had a problem leaking gas around the cap onto the tank and new paint. The cap is a chrome vented cap. The problem happens even on a near empty tank. Can anyone help.

My UB had same problem.

1. It had a pinhole leak in the seam where the neck was attached to the tank. I put some JB Weld on the seam inside the tank and cured that.

2. I tried several caps. The caps that I got have different gaps between the top gasket and the two teeth that grip the neck to pull the cap down. I made and added another gasket to give a tighter fit. (rubber inner tube will not work, gas fumes cause it to expand.)

My Farmall H is far from restored but I hate to have it leak and it has ever since I've had it, whenever I drive over a bump. Yesterday I had an inspiration when I saw an old spin-on oil filter sitting on the wall by the tractor. I removed the gasket from the filter and cut a little piece out so it was the right length to fit inside the gas cap. No more leaks yesterday when I was out in the woods. I don't know if the rubber will hold up but I figured since it was designed to deal with oil maybe it could take gas too.

I had that problem on my H. The solution was to get one of the high collar caps from IH.
