1940"s to 50"s Spitfire head for flat 6 possibly 251 ci. What is the difference from a regular head and will it fit on any 25 inch engine (241 265 )etc.

All I can tell you is the Victor catalog lists one gasket # 1061C for all US models from 37 Royal 218 cu in up thru 1954 265 cu in Windsor. This includes the 241 and 251 cu in engines between those years.

Finally an automotive question I know something about, and I"m only 35!
The head should fit any "big block" Chrysler flathead. It is higher compression than teh standard head. There are two head gaskets listed, one for each size block. Now, your water pump might not be right. Some engines use an external thermostat bypass. My "48 DeSoto is this type. There is a small hose that goes between the thermostat housing and top of water pump. This changed around 1950 or so. My "56 Plymouth and "50 Dodge with a newer engines both have internal bypass. On the top of the water pump, there is just a fitting for the heater hose. The backing plate on the back of the pump is different, but you can swap it out. I believe the block has a hole bored in it to meet up with the head. That is the little bulge at the front end of the head gasket. Chrysler lists different head gaskets for each application, but the one with the bypass hole works fine with a non bypass car. If you give the part number, I can look it up in the parts list and find the year. I believe 50 or 51 is the changeover year. It is fairly easy to figure out looking at the parts list. I can get the number off the DeSoto thermostat houseing and see what year it ends. Email me if you need this info. 1923holt (at) sbcglobal (dot) net. A FelPro 7256C is the gasket you"ll need.
