Fixing a tire.

Have a 4840 Gehl skid steer. Light farm use.Used
when purchased. Tires 85% worn. Found a small shingle nail about half way in one tire. Pulled it out and air came with it. Can this be fixed from the outside? Or put in tire seal and hope? Tubless tires
Or remove and fix internally?

I'll get screamed at for this... But, seeing it sounds like it's about worn out, I'd just plug it.

Hard to plug a thick casing, but easier than dismount/remount unless you have tire tools, or take it to someone who does. We had to get a "bead seater" when someone somehow knocked the bead off.. (I know how it happened, don't have to be too smart to figure this stuff out, but people lie about stuff instead of bein honest....)

Anyhow, that's my opinion

Sure, the cord type (string) will work fine. Ream out the hole get everything gluey and shove it in the hole with the tool. Pull the tool out and fill it with air. Cut off material sticking out. Done.
If it was a road tire I would say remove and repair from inside. The umbrella style repair plugs are also good, but might be too big for the hole. Jim

I plugged (using a plug kit from napa) two holes in my skid steer tire about 2 years ago and to this day it is holding air no problem. In that time it's been used for brush clearing, barn cleaning, snow plowing, etc.

Slow speed off road tire. An external plug will do just fine.
There are numerous brands of "wonder glop" with varying degrees of effectiveness. Maybe worth a try with a "slime" type of internal sealant.

I have used both the plugs and slime. Both have worked well for me. Last leaky tire I had I could not find the hole so I used slime and it has held very good.
