Boot of Choice

Hey guys since we are men who go out and work pretty hard out in the orchards and fields I was wondering what kind of boot do you wear? I'm an Irish Setter guy myself with the Wingshooter's being my work boot of choice.

I have tried several kinds and like Chippewa IQ best so far, I am on
my second pair of them. I always buy two though, one per foot.
Zach

Used to be a Straight up Red wing Man untill I the last 3 pairs wore out in 9 months or less, the inside liner would pull out and hold onto your foot when you went to take them off ( Note) that is alternating wearing the three different pairs daily.
also eat boot laces.
Found out Red Wing no longer makes a USA made boot made in Mexico
Switched to Chippewa's boot USA made you pay for it but have had these 6 months now ordered a second set easy break in and the most comfortable steel toe that I have ever owned.
if you want Quality comfortable work boots and can afford it buy American Made, I am on my feet on concrete working 6 ten hour days and my back and feet are not sore from cheap boots.

We were furnished Lehigh safety boots and shoes at work. Very confortable when on your feet all day. Hal

If that's the case then I'm very disappointed because my Grandfather swore by Irish Setter's and would wear nothing else.

I'm a Chippewa guy. They're comfortable and longest lasting boots I've owned. I prefer the Super-logger Bay Apaches myself.

Boy I sure hope someone tells all the Red Wing employees that report for work each day that there are no more boots being made in their factory.

Maybe the particular boot you wish to buy is not made in the US, but please don't go around saying that there is absolutely no production in the US. Internet misinformation can spread like wildfire and needlessly harm a company.

Is there any concrete info out there about this? I was always under the impression that Red Wing/Irish Setter was an American company with their products made in the U.S.A..

I can assure you that the production lines in Red Wing MN are alive and well. Yes they are an American company, but some of the products are imported now.

I have been wearing Wolverines, real cushy bottom sole. Only problem is that they come in Camo only and I would like to have the all brown.

I used to buy Redwings only, until the last pair.
Over a hunderd bucks and within 6 months the soles cracked and fell apart. I looked at the label and sure enough, made in China. I never thought Redwings would be imported crap.

For the last 10 years or so I've worn double H boots. I just retired a pair that I've worn for over 2 years in mud, manure and pretty hard use. I do oil them regularly. If I had any complaint it would be that they are a little hard to break in.

By chance have you ever had a problem with the steel toe wearing through prematurely?? I tried a pair of Doc Martens exactly as you described and had the steel toe wear through in about a month's time with normal wear. I didn't do anything I wouldn't do in other brands, and was thoroughly disappointed in the quality.

I typically end up with Wolverine wellingtons. I like wellington style and have been unable to find anything that wears better.

Red Wing logger boots for me! I've had 5 or 6 pairs over the years. Just bought another pair a month ago. The label on the tongue clearly says USA. They take a little braking in, but last for 5 years for me and I wear them every day. The only pair that ever had a problem(squeaking) was promptly replaced at no charge. Good product & good service!

I climb and work on and off of welded steel ladders that are used in commercial grain elevators. Some days I am standing on a ladder, wiring in a junction box for 3-5 hours out of 8-12 hours. The only boot that fits me well and has a strong enough arch to hold up for
me has been Danner boots. I have been to their outlet store in Portland, but actually have gotten better service at The Fort Western Wear in Lincoln,NE and Scheels in Omaha and Iowa City. I started buying them in 1974, have about 10 pair in various stages of life. I have worn out 3 pair, one pair in only 3 years working on heavy equipment at a cat shop and soaking up a lot of dirty 90W. They have been terrific boots for me.

I've really had good service out of Caterpillar brand boots, made by Wolverine. I know I'm paying extra for the name but I cant find the style without the name. For everything except hot summer wear I like the 8 inch Indiana style lace up. In the summer with shorts I normally wear a shorter 6 inch. For going out I usually wear Triumph 1914 Doc Martins. The leather doesnt seem tough enough for my daily wear but for going out they've done well.

I used to wear Red Wing Larado style but it got to where they just didnt hold up to what I expect for that much money. Usually lasted me about a year and a half. The Cat boots have been giving me right out 4 years out of a pair.

For years working outages in northern ILL nuclear power plants my boot of choice was lace up,flat soled Wolverines.I retired 11/8/99 and still have and wear occasionally the last pair I bought in 1998.Still good boots.

I've had several brands over the years, but I've had the best service out of Wolverine and Rocky. Right now I'm wearing a pair of Wolverine wellingtons that I've had about 3 years. Of course it's very hot here in southeastern NC and I wear boat shoes a lot in the summer, even in the hog pens and doing other farm work. I love to go barefooted, but sometimes you have to have boots.

LJS, as far as I know, the high-end Red Wings are still made in the US. Anything less than 200 bucks a pair is going to be made in China. If the boot uses Red Wing's "SuperSole", it's probably made in the US.

I've had good service from both Chinese and US Red Wings, but the American boots are definitely much better. My current boots are the best Red Wings I've ever owned.

I always wear lehigh of the shoe truck at work. I had two pair of Redwings about thirty years ago, most uncomfortable things I ever put on my feet.
