I have a 66 Ford 3000 with the 3 cyl gas engine. Anybody know the crankcase capacity and viscosity recommendation? -Sam K.

According to my book the crankcase capacity is 8 quarts. If my dipstick is correct that looks like a little too much. The viscosity depends on ambient temperature but 10W30 is good between 32 and 90 degrees F. Between 10 and 40 degrees use 5W-20.

8 qts. if you're still using the cartirdge type filter; 7 qts. if you're like most owners and use a spin-on filter.

Ya know that "W" does not mean weight, it indicates winter!! 10W30 is 30 weight, and 10W20 is 20 weight.

Keith, I did not use the words weight nor winter. As I understand the ratings SAE 30 will be thick when cold (I think the cold is 0 deg F) and thin when hot (210 deg F). 10W-30 will behave like SAE 10 at 0 deg F and will behave like straight 30 at 210 deg F.

Thanks, Guys; I don't have an owners manual, and live in Florida, so will plan on 8(-)quarts of 10W30. Thanks again. -Sam
