I have a 3000 ford tractor that wont idle or now start. I replaced the fuel filter after using it the other day and had to pull it to get it started. I bled the lines and was getting diesel at all 3 injectors. It wont even fire on either. The only time I can get it cranked is when I pull it. Then it lops like it is hitting on 2 cylinders at times then 3. After I shut it off yesterday, went back to try and crank it, nothing. Didnt seem to be getting a bit of diesel.

Any ideas?

not real sure what pump you have, but i think the cav has to be bled @ bleeders on pump housing-not sure it will clear itself if you don't do this before bleeding injectors.

Ok I got a pretty good idea what is going on. Got all the air out of the lines again and it crank and ran like new for 30 min or so.

I got on the tractor and moved 15 feet and sputtering. I took the line from the shutoff valve to the fuel filter off and there is a match stick worth of diesel coming out.

New question is, how much diesel should be flowing out?

What I've found on Ford tractors is the fuel shut-off valve at the bottom of the fuel tank gets plugged and restricts fuel flow..

all pumps will self bleed once you get them running and if you can run them long enough.

usually is fuel flow or maybe contaminated fuel.. are you sure someone did not put some gasolene in the tank??

so check for good flow.. and yes a matchstick of flow is normal to good but you must check all the way to the injector pump for good flow...

is your filter full of water and mositure? It is designed to stop flow if it gets water in it. did you drain the filter screw at the bottom of the filter till you got clean diesel out of it??

in rare cases you can have an air blockage where something stops enough air from getting to the engine.

you can have a problem where the fuel cutoff lever does not get pushed all the way back into the run position,, take and push it all the way to the front at the injector pump.

in rare cases you can have a plugged or defective injector pump... but it usually will not run at all.

how did the tractor run last time you used it?? has it always run badly,, ie low compression and worn out engine??

again,, usually is fuel flow to injector pump but could be other things mentioned.
