I bought a 15'Landpride rotary cutter at a auction and one of the gear boxes was dry.It reccomends 90W EP. I filled it with thick Lucas oil treatment thinking it would not roar as much but it has a pretty loud roar when it is running. It has huge 250HP rated gearboxes. Is still seems to work good and does not get hot.Is this a terminal problem or can i keep running it with out it siezeing up?

it could have a bearing that is bade and the grease seal failed letting the grease out if you tear it apart and check it out could save a lot of money you will have a ease of mind and agear box you will know it's conditon and not fail when kneeded old art

You have some damage inside of the gear box. It does not matter if it is rated at a 1000 hp if it is ran without grease. I would take it apart and see what is making the noise. It might just be a cheap bearing or something. If you keep running it making that much noise than you are guarantied to scrape it.

I wonder...........does straight "Lucas" by itself provide the lubrication of EP gear oil?
I guess if it were mine, I would tear it apart and investigate. You know......pay now or pay (big bucks, maybe) later!

if its making that much noise there's no fix in a bottle...tear box down and see whats wrong before you have a rolling grenade.
