O/T Big Storm Hits Michigan

After 39 hours, we got our electricity back. Had hurricane force winds (70-plus mph) pass through Tuesday night. Snapped power poles--several in a row. Over 100,000 without power. Had the tops snapped out of several good-sized oaks and several uprooted. Some large pines look to have exploded. Lots of clean up, but several cords of firewood to sell next year.

I think they just said there are 500 and some out here in Montcalm County yet. Luckily,we didn't loose ours.

Got a buddy lives up that way, said he was out of power for about 24 hours but had the genset running so all was well.
Living on the gulf coast, we are all too familiar with Hurricane Speed winds. Thought I would include this info:

New for 2010 is an expanded set of abbreviations indicating the storm strength:
D: Tropical Depression – wind speed less than 39 MPH
S: Tropical Storm – wind speed between 39 MPH and 73 MPH
H: Hurricane – wind speed between 74 MPH and 110 MPH
M: Major Hurricane – wind speed greater than 110 MPH

Had a sheet 4x10 sheet of cement board go through the tarp roof on my hoop shelter ten feet in the air. Luckily, didn't hit the big barn. Talked to the guy that left it, he's taking care of a new cover. I consider that fair.

60 mph wind near Flint recorded.
